After a long flight from the UK, and, of course, all the emotions of leaving family and friends behind for a new life in Australia, most people would get into the apartment and breathe.
Not the Carrolls.
I had done some research into parks in the city centre as we were going to be living there for the first month, and popping to a park seemed like a good idea to settle Sebby into the area. First stop: The Island Brew House at Elizabeth Quay.
Nestled in the beautiful Elizabeth Quay is The Island- a microbrewery and restaurant with exceptional pizzas- and a fabulous selection of tap beers. We settled down with a paddle of beers and a sense of relaxation. This is what we came here for- the relaxed lifestyle we had heard so much about.
This fast became one of our favourite parks. Play area for Sebby, beer for us, pizza for us all. However, the park is open to everyone so you don’t need to spend out if you don’t want to.
Things to note:
- It gets very busy at the weekends, especially in summer and during events like the fireworks. Book well in advance!
- There are outside toilets, however these can get a little grim at times. There are toilets inside the restaurant but be aware there are only a few- so plan those children’s toilet needs!
- There is water play areas on the park- if your kid is anything like mine- a change of clothes might be wise (and it’s very close to the water fountains- see separate post- so swim things might be a good plan!)
- The playground is quite challenging in size, so may not be great for smaller kids, and you will have to stay with them as the park is not in full view of a lot of the restaurant seats- and especially when the sun goes down (how early this happens took us a little by surprise!)
